Greg Allen ECHUCA AND BRIGHT, AUSTRALIA Workshop
MONDAY 9 NOVEMBER – SATURDAY 21 NOVEMBER 2020

DAY 1: Monday 9 November, 2020 Echuca, Victoria
Tour Members will depart from Melbourne Tullamarine airport at 12.00pm midday by private coach and transfer to the historic river port of Echuca. Echuca was once Australia’s busiest inland port during the days of steamboat transport in the mid-1800s. The Murray River is Australia’s longest river and forms most of the state border between Victoria and New South Wales. The old streetscape and wharf have been restored and paddle steamers travel along the river. Echuca provides workshop members with a unique opportunity to paint and experience a working steam port. This evening the group will meet for welcome drinks followed by an included dinner.

DAY 2: Tuesday 10 November, 2020 Echuca, Victoria
Today will be a full day of painting in Echuca. We will walk the short distance to the old port of Echuca. Echuca is still a working port and is home to the largest collection of paddle steamers in the world. Greg will find some great subjects for you to paint.

DAY 3: Wednesday 11 November, 2020 Echuca, Victoria
This morning we will take a paddle steamer ride along the mighty Murray River. This will be an opportunity to photograph the beautiful scenery and the magnificent gum trees. In the afternoon, Greg will find some wonderful subjects along the banks of the Murray to paint.

DAY 4: Thursday 12 November, 2020 Echuca, Victoria
Today we travel to Bendigo for a day of painting. The huge amount of gold discovered at Bendigo has left an extravagant mark. These riches built a grand city which is often regarded as the best-preserved example of Victorian architecture in the State - and possibly Australia. The journey down its side streets unveils even more remarkable buildings – baroque mansions, gothic cathedrals and Georgian-style homes. Enjoyable painting and sightseeing in Echuca and Bright in Victoria, with Greg Allen showing you how to capture the splendours of regional Victoria. This is a wonderful opportunity to discover all that this region has to offer, and to paint in a friendly and encouraging atmosphere.

DAY 5: Friday 13 November, 2020 Echuca, Victoria
Today we will travel to a local winery for a full day of painting and an included lunch. You will enjoy beautiful views of the vineyards and the Murray River.

DAY 6: Saturday 14 November, 2020 Echuca, Victoria
Our final day of painting in Echuca. Echuca is one of Australia’s oldest river towns and was once one of Victoria’s most substantial inland ports, using paddle steamers to transport wool along the Murray and Darling Rivers to Melbourne for export to England. Greg will paint a demonstration followed by individual tuition.

DAY 7: Sunday 15 November, 2020 Bright, Victoria

This morning we travel to Mt Buffalo National Park for a full day of painting. Mount Buffalo has sheer cliffs, imposing granite tors, tumbling waterfalls, snow gums and stunning wildflowers. In summer, wildflowers are plentiful and the park is a cool retreat from the heat of the lowlands. Take in superb 360-degree views from the summit of the Horn and the delightful Gorge Heritage Walk.

DAY 10: Wednesday 18 November, 2020 Bright, Victoria
This morning we will travel to Beechworth. Beechworth is one of Victoria’s best-preserved gold rush towns. It was one of Australia’s richest gold fields and the Beechworth Historic and Cultural Precinct today still abounds in remarkable architecture with over 30 buildings listed by the National Trust. This includes hotels, churches, miners’ cottages and the gaol where the bushranger Ned Kelly was imprisoned. Beechworth is also famous for the Beechworth Bakery. Perhaps try one of their delicious pies or cakes for lunch! Greg will paint a demonstration and then assist workshop members with individual attention. The nineteenth century streetscapes will provide wonderful painting opportunities.
