MONDAY 2 SEPTEMBER – SATURDAY 14 SEPTEMBER, 2019

DAY 1: Monday 2 September, 2019 Sarlat la Caneda
Workshop members will be met at Bordeaux airport at 2.00pm and transferred by air-conditioned coach through the beautiful rolling French countryside to the Dordogne region. We will stay in Sarlat la Caneda for six nights. The town has all the atmosphere of a well-preserved market town in medieval times. Its narrow medieval streets, Gothic and Renaissance buildings add to the atmosphere. Tonight we will celebrate with a welcome drinks party.

DAY 2: Tuesday 3 September, 2019 Sarlat la Caneda
This morning we will have a guided tour of this fascinating town. The town grew up around the Benedictine abbey founded in the middle of the 9th century. Sarlat reached its peak during the 13th and 14th centuries. There are houses full of charm all over the town, many with attractive courtyards. The town is host to interesting fairs and markets. We will see Maison de la Boetie, one of the finest houses and Renaissance building of 1525. After lunch Greg will commence the painting program in Sarlat with a demonstration followed by individual teaching. Tonight the group will enjoy an included welcome dinner.

DAY 3: Wednesday 4 September, 2019 Sarlat la Caneda
A full day of painting and exploring in Sarlat la Caneda with Greg Allen. Greg will start the day by painting a demonstration followed by individual tuition. Greg will hold a critique session every few days.

DAY 4: Thursday 5 September, 2019 Sarlat la Caneda
Today will be a day not to be missed. We will have a special visit in the countryside with a local truffle guide. This will be your opportunity to go truffle hunting with a truffle hunting dog. Following this we will enjoy a wonderful lunch. In the afternoon Greg will commence his painting session and will paint a demonstration and assist you individually with your work.

DAY 5: Friday 6 September, 2019 Sarlat la Caneda
Today workshop members will board a private coach for a day of painting and exploration of the Dordogne region. In the morning we will visit the spectacular town of La Roque-Gageac, voted one of the most beautiful villages in France. The village is surrounded by ancient manors and crowned with cliffs and is a paradise for painters. In the afternoon we will travel to the town of Domme, another very attractive village perched high above the Dordogne River with magnificent views over the river and surrounding countryside. On the way back to Sarlat the workshop group will return through other interesting towns and villages in the Dordogne region.

DAY 6: Saturday 7 September, 2019 Sarlat la Caneda
Saturday is market day in Sarlat. Greg will help you capture all of the colour and excitement of market day. There will be a chance to wander through the market, where your senses will be aroused with the perfume of herbs and spices and other food on offer. Greg will paint a demonstration and assist workshop members individually.

DAY 7: Sunday 8 September, 2019 Aix en Provence
Today we travel to Aix en Provence, one of France’s most graceful cities, with its majestic public squares, shaded avenues and charming fountains. Aix en Provence is also famous for being the home and inspiration for Paul Cezanne, who did much of his painting in and around the city. An included dinner will be held at our hotel this evening.

DAY 8: Monday 9 September, 2019 Aix en Provence
This morning we will take a walking sightseeing tour of Aix en Provence with a local guide who will provide background on all the important sights. The tour will visit Vieux Aix, the charming old town of Aix with its elegant mansions, pleasant squares and charming fountains and Cours Mirabeau, a stunning boulevard with a beautiful canopy of fine plane trees and fountains. After lunch Greg will start the painting program with a demonstration in a picturesque part of the town and give you personal assistance and helpful advice as you work.

DAY 9: Tuesday 10 September, 2019 Aix en Provence
You will enjoy a full day of painting and relaxation in spectacular Aix en Provence under Greg’s helpful eye.

DAY 10: Wednesday 11 September, 2019 Aix en Provence
Today the group will visit the historic town of Avignon where Greg will join you as you explore and paint subjects such as the impressive Palace of the Popes and old Avignon, as well as the museums and the market area. We travel back to Aix en Provence for an evening at leisure, stopping for sightseeing and pictures at the breathtaking Roman Pont Du Gard aqueduct.

DAY 11: Thursday 12 September, 2019 Aix en Provence
You will spend this day exploring the countryside of Provence. We will take you to the delightful town of St Remy de Provence to see the asylum where Vincent Van Gogh was confined in 1889 after he cut off his ear following his split with Gauguin. There will be a painting session in the nearby olive groves before we take you to the interesting hill town of Le Baux on the way back to an evening of leisure in Aix en Provence.

DAY 12: Friday 13 September, 2019 Aix en Provence
Our last full day in historic Aix en Provence will commence with a demonstration followed by individual teaching. Greg will find a great spot for a demonstration and later in the day he will hold his final critique session. We believe you will be thrilled with what you have learnt from him. We will come together for an included farewell dinner to celebrate the success of the workshop.

DAY 13: Saturday 14 September, 2019 Departure
Time to say farewell. After breakfast you will be transferred to Marseille airport for afternoon return flights.

TOUR EXTENSION – ART GALLERIES OF PARIS

DAY 1: Saturday 14 September, 2019 Paris
This morning tour members will travel by TGV fast train from Aix en Provence to Paris. In the evening we will depart on our “Paris by night tour”. The tour will drive past the famous floodlit monuments of Paris such as the Louvre, Pont Neuf, Notre-Dame, Hôtel de Ville, Champs-Elysées and the Eiffel tower.

DAY 2: Sunday 15 September, 2019 Paris
Today we will travel by train and visit the Musee D’Orsay. It is housed in the former Gare d’Orsay, an impressive Beaux-Arts railway station built between 1898 and 1900. The museum holds mainly French art dating from 1848 to 1915, including paintings, sculptures, furniture, and photography. It is probably best known for its extensive collection of impressionist and post-impressionist masterpieces (the largest in the world) by such painters such as Monet, Manet, Degas, Renoir, Cézanne, Seurat, Sisley, Gauguin and Van Gogh. Greg will guide the group through the museum then there will be free time to explore the museum on your own.

DAY 3: Monday 16 September, 2019 Paris
The Louvre is one of the world’s largest museums and the most visited art museum in the world. A central landmark of Paris it is located on the Right Bank of the Seine. Nearly 35,000 objects from prehistory to the 19th century are exhibited. Today Greg will lead the group on a visit to the Louvre.

DAY 4: Tuesday 17 September, 2019 Departure
Time to say farewell. After breakfast you will be transferred to Paris (CDG) airport for afternoon return flights.
