Amanda Hyatt - THE ITALIAN LAKES, ITALY Watercolour Workshop
MONDAY 31 AUGUST TO SATURDAY 12 SEPTEMBER 2020

DAY 1: Monday 31 August, 2020 Stresa, Lake Maggiore
Workshop members will depart at 2.00pm from Milan Malpensa airport to our comfortable four-star hotel in Stresa, overlooking Lake Maggiore. Lake Maggiore is the most famous of the Italian Lakes, in part for its legendary beauty, at times both majestic and wild, and for the Borromean Islands. The mountains of the Alps and Pre Alps shelter the lake to provide a warm secluded area. There will be time to freshen up before the group meets for welcome drinks and an included welcome dinner at the hotel.

DAY 2: Tuesday 1 September, 2020 Stresa, Lake Maggiore
Today Amanda will begin the painting program in Lake Maggiore with a demonstration in a good location near the hotel. Then it will be your turn to paint as Amanda moves among the group, helping each person with their work.

DAY 3: Wednesday 2 September, 2020 Stresa, Lake Maggiore
After breakfast, we take a boat to Isola Bella, the most spectacular of the Borromean Islands. On the island, we will see the Palace that is built in the Lombard Baroque style and its staterooms – Napoleon’s room, the Hall of Mirrors, music room and more. The gardens are undoubtedly one of the most dramatic examples of 17th-century gardens in Italy, filled with beautiful roses and other perfumed plants set out on 10 terraces ornamented with statues and fountains and will provide wonderful subjects to paint.

DAY 4: Thursday 3 September, 2020 Stresa, Lake Maggiore
Today will be a full day of painting at Lake Maggiore. Amanda will take the group to a good location for a demonstration followed by individual attention for workshop members.

DAY 5: Friday 4 September, 2020 Lake Como
Today we travel to Lake Como. Como is a city of history, art, culture and tradition and welcomes those in search of unusual and enchanting landscapes. Como was prosperous under the Romans and reached its zenith in the 11th century. Now it is a modern town with a beautiful setting on the shores of Lake Como. This afternoon Amanda will find great subjects close to the hotel for a painting session. This evening we will enjoy an included dinner at our hotel.

DAY 6: Saturday 5 September, 2020 Lake Como
Today will be a full day of painting at Lake Como. Amanda will take the group to a good location for a demonstration followed by individual attention for workshop members.

DAY 7: Sunday 6 September, 2020 Lake Como
Today we travel to the lovely town of Bellagio for a day of painting. Occupying a magnificent site on the promontory dividing Lake Lecco from Lake Como, it is known for its pretty streets, the friendliness of its people and its villas and gardens.

DAY 8: Monday 7 September, 2020 Lake Como
Today we will depart in our private coach to Menaggio, located on the western shore of Lake Como, for a day of painting. The splendid lakeside promenade with its lovely flowerbeds and unique view of the central lake will offer many subjects to paint. Amanda will paint a demonstration and then spend time moving amongst the group members offering individual assistance. There will be time to catch the ferry to Varenna, a spectacular town built upon a rock at the foot of a mountain that rises almost vertically above it.

DAY 9: Tuesday 8 September, 2020 Lake Garda
Today workshop members will be transferred to Lake Garda. Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy. Glaciers formed this alpine region at the end of the last Ice Age. The lake and its shoreline are divided between the provinces of Verona, Brescia, and Trentino. This evening we will enjoy an included dinner.

DAY 10: Wednesday 9 September, 2020 Lake Garda
Today we will take the ferry to Malcesine, a picturesque town with cobbled lanes and a castle, nestled between the blue lake waters and the massive mountain ridge behind of Monte Baldo. Amanda will find some wonderful subjects for you to paint.

DAY 11: Thursday 10 September, 2020 Lake Garda
This morning we will paint in the beautiful town of Riva del Garda. The second biggest settlement on Lake Garda, Riva del Garda has long been seen as a strategically important town. The town controlled the northern half of the lake and also had an influence on trade routes north and south coming and going over the Alps. It’s not surprising therefore that much of its history and its important sights relate to wars and fortifications. Amanda will find a wonderful location to paint a demonstration and assist workshop members individually.

DAY 12: Friday 11 September, 2020 Lake Garda
Today we will take the ferry to Limone. Nestling alongside lemon groves, beneath the cliffs of the northwestern shore of Lake Garda, Limone is a picture perfect resort - an artist’s paradise. Houses covered in blossoming geraniums and bougainvillaea line the old, cobbled streets that lead up from the lakeside. Amanda will commence her painting session with a demonstration and spend time moving amongst the group members offering assistance. Tonight there will be an included dinner.

DAY 13: Saturday 12 September, 2020 Lake Garda
Workshop members will be transferred to Venice Marco Polo airport by private coach. The transfer will arrive in time to meet flights departing after 2.00pm.
