DAY 1: Thursday 15 August, 2019 Rome, Italy
Workshop members will be transferred from Rome airport at 3.00pm (please allow adequate time to collect your luggage) to your comfortable four-star hotel in Rome. There will be time to freshen up before the group meets for welcome drinks and an included welcome dinner.

DAY 2: Friday 16 August, 2019 Rome, Italy
This morning we depart on our private sightseeing tour of Rome. We see the Coliseum (Rome’s ancient amphitheatre), the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain, the Piazza Navona, and the Pantheon. We will visit St Peter’s Basillica, in Vatican City. In the afternoon Amanda will begin the painting program with a demonstration and individual teaching. Valuable critique sessions will be held in the hotel every few days.

DAY 3: Saturday 17 August, 2019 Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy
This morning we will visit the Villa Borghese Museum where we will see paintings and sculptures from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century. The collection, made up initially by Cardinal Scipione Borghese in the early seventeenth century, preserves masterpieces of Antonello da Messina, Giovanni Bellini, Raffaello, Tiziano, Correggio, Caravaggio and beautiful sculptures of Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Canova. In the afternoon we will be transferred to the Emerald Princess for our fabulous 14 -night cruise.

DAY 4: Sunday 18 August, 2019 Salerno, Italy
Today we arrive into the port of Salerno. We will transfer the short distance to Positano for a full day of painting on the magnificent Amalfi Coast with Amanda Hyatt. Positano will be a joy to paint with its houses tumbling down to the sea in a cascade of sun-bleached peach, pink and terracotta. Another fantastic subject are its steep streets and steps, flanked by wisteria-draped hotels, smart restaurants and fashionable retailers.

DAY 5: Monday 19 August, 2019 At sea
Today will be a full day of painting on board the Emerald Princess under the guidance of Amanda Hyatt. Amanda will paint a demonstration and then assist workshop members individually.

DAY 6: Tuesday 20 August, 2019 Kotor, Montenegro
This morning we take a tender to shore for our guided walking tour of Kotor, which was founded by the Romans in 168BC and conquered by the Venetians in the 15th century. It will be a delight to visit the Clock Tower, Main Gate, Arms and Flour Squares, Maritime Museum, Green Market and Napoleon’s Theatre in this UNESCO listed city. In the afternoon there will be a painting session and free time for exploration of the city and lunch (own expense). You can return to the ship by tender at leisure.

DAY 7: Wednesday 21 August, 2019 Corfu, Greece
This morning we arrive in Corfu, the most northern island of the Ionian Group, lying at the entrance of the Adriatic Sea for a full day of painting. The Venetian heritage is still visible on the island and in the town of Corfu as you will discover while painting on the famous Esplanade dating from the 16th century. Amanda will demonstrate then move among the workshop members as they complete their own works. The ship sails mid-afternoon.

DAY 8: Thursday 22 August, 2019 Crete (Chania), Greece
This morning there will be a painting session on board the Emerald Princess. At midday the ship will arrive in Crete and we will travel by coach to the archaeological site of the Minoan Palace of Knossos. We will have a sightseeing tour of the remains dating to the 2nd century BC, including exploring what were the royal quarters, storerooms and central court of the palace, the power base of Europe’s first civilization; and hear about the mythical Minotaur that roamed a labyrinth. There will be free time in Crete’s capital, Heraklion before returning to the ship.

DAY 9: Friday 23 August, 2019 Mykonos, Greece
Today we arrive in the scenic Greek island of Mykonos. Mykonos is one of the smallest islands of the Cyclades complex, but is definitely the most famous, thanks to its treasure of natural beauty, rich history, cosmopolitan character combined with plenty of local colour. Chora, the islands capital is spectacular with its narrow, whitewashed streets and white cubicle houses with their tiny balconies, coloured windows lined by bougainvillea and posts of basilicum. Numerous little churches and chapels, hidden minuscule piazza’s and water wells, as well as the multitude of colourful shops makes this a fabulous place to spend the day painting under the instruction of Amanda Hyatt.

DAY 10: Saturday 24 August, 2019 Athens, Greece.
Today we call into the ancient city of Athens, capital of Greece. Athens is home of the Acropolis and the ultimate in ancient Greek architectural perfection, the Parthenon. Our sightseeing tour today delves into the glorious history of Athens. A highlight of the tour is a visit to the Acropolis, still dominating the frantic bustle of modern Athens. Built to honour the goddess Athena, it is one of the wonders of the ancient world. We also see the historical Plaka district at the foot of the Acropolis where there will be time for lunch and an afternoon painting session.

DAY 11: Sunday 25 August, 2019 Santorini, Greece
Arriving early in the morning, we have a day to sketch and explore Santorini, known as the Black Pearl of the Aegean; one of the most spectacular landscapes in Greece and in the world. The traditional villages of the island, built on tall cliffs, offer breathtaking views over the sea below. Bring a sketch book or enjoy free time to explore this magnificent island.

DAY 12: Monday 26 August, 2019 At sea

DAY 13: Tuesday 27 August, 2019 Kotor, Montenegro
Today we sail up the picturesque Bay of Kotor, a submerged river canyon. A fantastic landscape is created by the overhanging limestone cliffs of Orjen and Lovcen. The town was founded by the ancient Romans in 168 BC and conquered by the Venetians in the 15th century. The port of Kotor was built by the Republic of Venice and is surrounded by impressive city walls. There are many attractive Venetian buildings in the town. We will travel by tender ashore and Amanda will find some great subjects for you to paint. The ship sails at 3.00pm for Messina.

DAY 14: Wednesday 28 August, 2019 Sicily (Messina), Italy
This morning there will be a painting session on board the Emerald Princess. In the afternoon we will enjoy a sightseeing tour. We will see the splendour of Mt Etna, Europe’s highest active volcano (3,323 metres) rising in the centre of a volcanic area of Sicily. We will then travel to Taormina to continue our tour to Taormina’s Greek Theatre. It was built in the third century BC, renovated by the Romans, and is now used for summer performances. The theatre, built into the hillside, has excellent acoustics and spectacular views of the sea and Mt. Etna. We then return for a tour of Messina.

DAY 15: Thursday 29 August, 2019 Naples, Italy
This morning we arrive into the Bay of Naples. We first visit the ancient, perfectly preserved ruins of Pompeii, a wealthy settlement of the Roman Empire, destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD. We will have a tour of the ruins with a local guide to see the Forum, the House of the Vetti, a wellpreserved aristocratic villa and much more. In the afternoon we travel to Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast for an afternoon of painting with Amanda Hyatt.

DAY 16: Friday 30 August, 2019 At sea
A day at sea. Our final day of painting with Amanda. Amanda will commence the days painting program with a demonstration followed by tuition. In the afternoon Amanda will hold a final critique session and drinks party to celebrate our time in the Mediterranean.

DAY 17: Saturday 31 August, 2019 Barcelona, Spain
This morning we arrive in Barcelona the capital of Catalonia and second largest city in Spain. Situated on the shores of the Mediterranean it is an important cultural centre and a major tourist destination with a rich cultural heritage. On our sightseeing tour we will visit the Gothic Quarter, (see historic Barcelona Cathedral), the l’Eixample district, home to most of Barcelona’s famous modern architecture and some of the most striking examples by architect Antoni Gaudi. Visit Gaudi’s amazing La Sagrada Familia, the most talked about unfinished building in the world! Also, see Gaudi’s highly unusual Casa Mila, an apartment building with a wave-like facade. Visit Montjuic, a hill that provides commanding views of the city and harbour. After lunch the coach will transfer tour members returning home to Barcelona airport for those who have flights departing after 4.00pm.
