TUESDAY 28 JULY – SUNDAY 9 AUGUST 2020

DAY 1: Tuesday 28 July, 2020 Emma Gorge, El Questro
Tour members will be met at Kununurra airport at 12.00pm and transferred to Emma Gorge. We travel along the Victoria Highway to El Questro Station, located on one million acres of Kimberley wilderness. El Questro is a working cattle station with a herd of approximately 5,000 head of crossbred Brahman and Shorthorn cattle. The group will be staying in comfortable tented safari cabins with private ensuites in the heart of the unique Kimberley wilderness. It will be a great four days. Breakfast and an enjoyable safari camp dinner are provided each day in El Questro.

DAY 2: Wednesday 29 July, 2020 Emma Gorge, El Questro
This morning we will have a tour of El Questro. The tour includes a visit to the Zebedee Thermal Springs and a boat trip on the Chamberlain River only accessible by boat. This 3 km fresh waterhole is bound by diverse flora and fauna, and overlooked by a towering escarpment. This will be followed by a painting session with David Taylor. Dinner is included tonight.

DAY 3: Thursday 30 July, 2020 Emma Gorge, El Questro
The El Questro safari camp has been enjoyed by many notable artists over the years who have all been enchanted by the unique surroundings and the fun of “roughing it”. After breakfast, David will demonstrate at a good painting spot and then help individuals with their work. Dinner is included tonight.

DAY 4: Friday 31 July, 2020 Emma Gorge, El Questro
A full day of painting with David Taylor in spectacular El Questro. There are many excellent painting spots and David will choose some great subjects. Dinner is included tonight.

DAY 5: Saturday 1 August, 2020 Kununurra
Today we travel to Kununurra, the Kimberley’s eastern gateway. Kununurra is a lively and pleasant modern town that is the centre of the ambitious Ord River irrigation scheme. In the afternoon, David will paint a demonstration and then help assist workshop members individually. Dinner will be included each evening during our stay in Kununurra.

DAY 6: Sunday 2 August, 2020 Kununurra
This morning we will travel the short distance to the nearby national park for a morning painting session. In the afternoon there will be an opportunity for an optional scenic flight to Purnululu (Bungle Bungle) National Park. Departing Kununurra the flight heads south over Lake Kununurra and the upper Ord River and onto Lake Argyle, flying over vast cattle stations and the Osmond Ranges. We arrive at the Purnululu National Park and the Bungle Bungle Ranges where we fly a circular pattern to reveal the spectacular beehives and deep gorges of this unique landform. The majestic “bee hive” dome structures are the most famous image from the area, and you will get a fantastic view from our high winged aircraft. You will also get to see right into Deep Gorge and the famous Piccaninny Gorge as we fly overhead. Leaving the Bungles we track north towards the Argyle Diamond Mine, now famous for its rare pink and champagne coloured diamonds. Next, we follow the shoreline of Lake Argyle and the rugged peaks of the Carr Boyd Ranges back to Kununurra.

DAY 7: Monday 3 August, 2020 Kununurra
This morning we will travel to Lake Argyle and paint the Historic Durack Homestead. The magnificent homestead was originally built in 1895 by the Durack family on Argyle Downs Station. David will demonstrate and then help individuals with their work.

DAY 8: Tuesday 4 August, 2020 Katherine
Today we will leave Kununurra to travel to Katherine. Katherine is where the outback meets the tropics and a region full of gorges and misty waterfalls, thermal springs and ancient cultures. Dinner will be included each evening during our stay in Katherine.

DAY 9: Wednesday 5 August, 2020 Katherine
After breakfast, we will have a sightseeing tour of the spectacular Katherine Gorge. The group will travel by boat along a part of the gorge. There will be some spectacular views to photograph and you will have time for sketching and painting.

DAY 10: Thursday 6 August, 2020 Kakadu National Park
Today we travel to Kakadu National Park, which is one of the natural marvels of Australia. It encompasses a variety of superb landscapes, swarms with wildlife and has some of Australia’s best Aboriginal rock art. In the afternoon, David will find a great painting location close to the hotel and show you how to tackle it. Dinner will be included each evening during our stay in Kakadu

DAY 11: Friday 7 August, 2020 Kakadu National Park
A full day of painting in Kakadu national park. This evening we will enjoy a sunset cruise on Kakadu’s Yellow Water billabong giving us a unique opportunity to experience this diverse and sublimely beautiful area and its associated wildlife.

DAY 12: Saturday 8 August, 2020 Kakadu National Park
Today is our last day of painting in Kakadu. David will paint a demonstration and then provide each workshop member with individual attention throughout the day. There will be a final critique session, followed by farewell drinks and dinner.

DAY 13: Sunday 9 August, 2020 Departure
After breakfast, workshop members will be transferred to Darwin airport to join domestic flights to their home cities departing after 12.00pm.
